The THEATREWORKS we are passionate about producing always originate as compelling stories. They offer a heightened, often absurdist, sometimes lyrical, interpretation of the real world we all see everyday. They grant our audiences the unique opportunity to view their world with a fresh perspective. They embrace the humor while not ignoring the drama we all encounter in everyday situations. And they never shy away from their inherent theatricality.
To that end, we offer artists from all aspects of the theatre the opportunity to work in a disciplined environment in which the choice of what work we present is made entirely by the artists involved. We want to develop a more unique relationship between the artist and their producing entity. We support emerging New York artists through productions of new plays as well as revivals of works by contemporary masters, thereby putting the new works into a specific context.
We believe that basing our season on what our ARTISTS want to present is far more beneficial of an offering to our audiences and to the future of the art form. Innovation follows artistic vision, not commercial interests.
